IAM is too Niche?!

My Tangy Take:

I was criticized recently due to my love of Identity as I was told it was too narrow of a field to focus on.
I would respectfully disagree with this statement. Like AI (Artificial Intelligence), IAM (Identity Access Management) needs to be handled responsibly and ethically.
Identity encompasses not only authentication but also authorization and reporting. It serves as the foundation for accessing every website, application, and platform.
Lumos recently published a blog about unsecured employee access in March:
“All organizations are grappling with an increasingly complex web of identities that span remote employees, third-party vendors, and a growing stack of cloud applications.
The costs of mismanaging user access are high. Every misstep in provisioning or deprovisioning user access is a potential backdoor for cybercriminals, a security failure waiting to happen, or simply an unproductive bottleneck that wastes valuable time and resources.” -Erin Geiger

My final thought? Every single company must focus on their identity posture, if not it could lead to severe consequences.
